Notes
At the top of the page, this item is identified as "A correct Copy of a Letter from Mr. Zaffany to Mr. Huddesforth." It is not known who made this copy.
The letter is dated "Martz 3." Zoffany was in Florence from 1772 to 1779, and he painted a portrait of the Grand Duke of Tuscany and his family in 1776, suggesting that the original of this letter was probably written that year.
Addressed on the verso to Lady Beaumont. This copy must therefore have been made between 1776 and Margaret Beaumont's death in 1829.
The letter is written in a phonetic English with spellings such as "dat" for "that," "aLeiff" for "alive" and "Fenischt" for "finished."
This manuscript is from a large collection of letters written to Sir George Howland Beaumont (1753-1827) and Lady Margaret Willes Beaumont (1758-1829) of Coleorton Hall and to other members of the Beaumont family.
