Notes
Address panel in Mary Wordsworth's hand with seal and postmarks and addressed to "Mrs. J. M. Müleen / 21 Heriot Row / Edinburgh."
Part of a collection of 15 letters and manuscripts of William Wordsworth. Items in the collection have been described individually; see collection-level record for MA 101 for more information.
The letter is dated "28 Feby" and Wordsworth's year may read "86." The address panel is postmarked 28 March 1838, and Wordsworth apparently misdated the letter.
Wordsworth possibly signed the statement as well, but a portion of the page has been cut away.
Summary
Quoting three lines from his poem Excursion (iv., ll. 188-190) and stating "you tell me that my writings have been your comfort and solace in sickness and affliction; it was kind in you to do so; for I meet with no reward comparable to such assurances."
