Summary
Informing him of his meetings with Mr. Ellis, Lord North and Lord Barrington; saying that Mr. Ellis has "strong hopes that you will not precipitately return to England, 'because matters are not yet determined as you could wish';" saying that Lord North and Lord Barrington "express the highest sense of your abilities & worth and have authorized me to assure you of their support;" enclosing a motion proposed by Lord North "and the opposition it met. This motion is I presume a preparative step to a final decision who shall rule in India; and Sir, without any deceit towards you, it is the general opinion, that you certainly will have the Government of Bengal;" relating news of his family; adding "God bless you, Sir, and keep you from too much reflection on your present disagreeable situation."
