Summary
Concerning enemy troop movements and the exposure to smallpox; informing him that he has just been told by Colonel Taylor "that the enemy is reinforced from their out posts with fourteen pieces of cannon in all, and two grass hoppers - that their intentions were to March this day and to fix their encampment Contiguous to Mr. Frolich's mill, near Salisbury & that the Party of eight hundred were to relieve Maj'r Ferguson who was Surround'd at near Gilberts Town. A woman who pass'd about fifteen days ago I am apprehensive has proceed'd toward Hilsborough from the Enemy - with the small pox. I doubt not but she has been sent on purpose to spread that Contagion among the Troops - The Ferryman at this ford I am inform'd by Doc'trs Pasteur and Alexander, who I sent to examine him has got it. I have had him remov'd and shall take such precausion in my power to prevent the infection spreading.
