Purchased by Pierpont Morgan from the London dealer Quaritch in July 1905 as part of a collection of Burney's correspondence and fragments of manuscripts, bound in three volumes. Disbound in 1925.
Summary
Congratulating her on her marriage to Alexandre d'Arblay and telling her of the "good & friendly wishes that I have sincerely felt, & do feel, for you, upon occasion of the most important event of your whole life"; apologizing for not having written earlier; writing that he had heard rumors of her marriage, but did not know definitively that it had happened until he received a letter from her father in late August; sending his wife's best wishes along with his own and asking to be remembered to "Capt. & Mrs. Phillips" (Molesworth Phillips and his wife Susanna); adding "[n]ot knowing exactly where you are, I venture to direct to Mickleham."
