The notebook has clippings pasted in, including a schedule of lectures at the Concord Lyceum and a printed copy of an Emerson poem.
The verso of the flyleaf is signed: "D.H. Thoreau / Cambridge Mass. / Nov. 1836."
Thoreau compiled this notebook of excerpts from various authors with his commentary while he was a student at Harvard. The first entry is written from "Hollis 23," Thoreau's dorm room in Harvard Yard.
