After writing 74 pages, Thoreau inverted the book and wrote the remaining pages from back to front.
High reserve.
Manuscript probably written from September to December, 1850. One entry, giving a list of "old books containing maps" that Thoreau saw in Cambridge, is dated 18 November 1850. Loose material contains items dated as late as March 1856. Thoreau visited Canada from 25 September to 2 October, 1850.
Part of a collection of 12 Thoreau notebooks: 11 "Indian notebooks" (MA 596-606) and 1 notebook with "Extracts relating to Canada" (MA 595). The notebooks are described individually in 12 records.
Some material later used in "A Yankee in Canada" and "Cape Cod." Some notes on "hydraulics" used in Walden.
