The letter begins with "Sonnet by Lord Moira" which Thackeray has just read in the "Diary / Illustrative of / The Times / of / George the Fourth, : in two volumes. London: Henry Colburn, 1838, vol. 1, p. 87.
The letter is addressed to "My dear F."
The year of writing is not known, however, the sonnet he quotes was published in 1838, therefore, the letter could have been written between 1838 and Thackeray's death in 1863.
