Notes
Concerning his illness; saying "I am told this morning that it will be prudent not to attempt performing these 10 days at least unless a sudden & favourable turn takes place - I have not settled any place at present in which to take the advantage of the salt water - & indeed untill the state of pain be relieved, I could not, from its awkward locality, bear the motion of a coach without being pillowed up - a [illegible] in a public vehicle by no means agreeable. I will whenever I have arranged my destinations let you know them, for I must endeavour, as soon as my "----" will let me, to be on the way of paying expences - as it will be utterly impossible for me, now. I suppose to get a fortnight Liverpool since I could not have been there according to my first hopes - at all events, well or ill - At present it is my intention to go direct for Edinb'g as soon as I am able to start. - unless anything should occur to alter my plan - Shall I return you the part of 'Danvers' - or keep it to be ready in, at your reopening. - I will send you the Doctor's Certificate - & will also recollect Poole's acknowledgement as you request me."
