Part of an album of manuscript poems and letters of nineteenth-century English and American authors collected by Mrs. Annie Fields, author and literary hostess in Boston. Manuscripts in the album are described in individual records; see MA 925 for more information.
The two stanzas of "Wages" appear on p. 3 with the following note: "This will appear in the February Macmillan: if too late for your Atlantic, at any rate it will serve for an autograph for Mrs. Fields, to whom present it with my regards."
Written on mourning stationery with "Harringford, Freshwater, Isle of Wight." printed in the upper right corner.
