Said to have been found in the shop of an Italian grocer in the city of Lima by Adolf F. Bandelier in 1892, and brought by him to New York in 1903; acquired by Pierpont Morgan before 1913.
Summary
Containing transcripts of documents relating to the founding and early history of Cuzco, Peru, dated 1572, recording statutes and ordinances of the Spanish viceroys for the building of a cathedral and hospital, and a tribute to the Emperor Charles V. Signed by Hernando de Soto, Pedro de Candia, Jose Antonio de Valverde, Joseph Antonio de Areche, Gonzalo Pizarro, and Francisco de Toldeo throughout. Followed (on fols. 167-200) by an earlier register of deliberations and original land grants of the city of Cuzco, signed by Gonzalo Pizarro, Hernando de Soto, Pedro de Candia, and others, dated [1534-1537].
