Summary
Introducing Sir Moses Montefiore, who "...is about to proceed to Jerusalem with the view of endeavouring to ameliorate the condition of his coreligionists in the Holy Land, by the erection of improved dwellings, and by every means that he may find practicable, and he has asked to be furnished with letters of introduction to Her Majesty's Consular Officers in that country similar to those which were given to him by the Earl of Clarendon in February 1866; asking that he extend "...all the support and protection that you can under him, consistently with the general terms of the instructions under which you act, as regard subjects of the Sultan, and you will promote by all the means in your power the personal comfort and safety of Sir Moses Montefiore during the charitable work in which he is engaged."
