Summary
Saying that unfortunately he cannot help Knight with his memoir of John Nichol: "I have made it a practice through life not to keep correspondence. I am not at all sure this has not been a mistake ; but the consequence is that with the exception of two notes on an absolutely private matter, I have not got a line of Nichol's writing in my possession;" adding that he doubts there is enough material for a full biography, though a short memoir could serve as the preface to a collection of Nichol's work.
