Notes
Part of a collection of letters, manuscripts, and prints related to Bossuet and Fénelon; see collection record (MA 24) for more information.
Passages from Livy, probably prepared for the education of Louis, Dauphin of France, with notes and corrections in Jacques Bénigne Bossuet's hand. Bossuet was the Dauphin's instrustor from 1670 to 1681. A second handwriting in the document is likely that of another tutor.
Prefaced by a note from Eugène Levesque, editor of Bossuet's letters, pointing out where Bossuet's handwriting appears on this item and speculating that the other handwriting belongs to someone involved in the education of the Dauphin.
Provenance
Purchased by Pierpont Morgan from the London dealer J. Pearson & Co., 1907.
