Summary
Concerning cuts to his play; saying "I have not a line of the Piece with me here therefore cannot do as you desire - but even were it otherwise, I think the pruning knife w'd be applied with tenfold advantage by yourself and Miss Kelly, who must have felt what lines lagged and what did not - therefore if you will have the kindness to use your discretions (and better need not be) in retrenching superfluous language without impairing the detail of the plot, every object will be attained - I am told that a few passages cribbed out of the first and 2'd scenes would accomplish all that is wanted;" discussing specific edits and the relationship of his play to a Spanish play and to two other versions of it, one by Bullock and one by Savage; asking that a certain scene "remain unaltered, unless Miss K. found any murmur actually expressed by the audience upon the 1st night;" congratulating him on his convalescence.
