Summary
Concerning the treaty negotiations for Central America; expressing concern for his "affliction. It is even thus; when we are fighting face to face with Fortune...comes one of these back-handed blows when & where we are least prepared for them. Our sole response is to rush back to the busy world again & forget in living - that we live. Think nothing more, my dear friend, of that little affair of mine - about wh you kindly took more trouble than was necessary...I wished to see you now on quite another matter : Mr. Crampton writes me word that Mr. Webster tells him that as every one is quiet about Central America now we had better leave it alone ; I confess that I think the quiet is just the symptom of a possibility to wind up satisfactorily to all parties the whole concern. When you are better in better spirits we will talk over these matters - In the meantime receive my warm sympathy & the assurance of my sincere friendship."
