Summary
Discussing financial dealings that were difficult to resolve with Mr. Osborne; suggesting he could ship his cotton to New York but that "it might perhaps be as well to Sell in Savannah..;" apologizing for his financial dealings with Mr. Macintosh concerning the "recovery of the money or the Negroe;" commenting on the weather saying, "You have been visited by the most tremendous hurricane which carried with it terror and devastation and we have here been almost frozen or burried alive in Snow. The weather has been extremely cold and it is generally believed that more Snow has fallen this winter than had fallen in the last Seven years[.] The greatest exertions were necessary to prevent the poorer people from Starving or freezing to Death, and it is computed that upwards of 50,000 Dollars have been given in public and private donations for that purpose[.] The weather is now mild but we have banks of Ice and Snow in the Streets that will probably continue until towards May;" adding that they received a "Rice Barrel of excellent potatoes" which were "gratefully received" but wondering who sent them and to whom he should address his thanks;" sending his regards to Mrs. Telfair and his family.
