Summary:

Saying that he understands Soane's father, John Soane, has published an attack on Dibdin in one of the morning newspapers, using an assumed name; writing "Of course, I can not and must not suffer anything so thoroughly despicable to go unanswered - the more so, as this opportunity is taken of a studied eulogy on his own works;" adding that he does not want to cause trouble for George Soane himself and that he "shall rejoice to learn that your stipend is irrevocably settled upon you [...] The sooner you drop me a line in reply, the more I shall be obliged;" adding that he has not yet read Soane Senior's critique, "but, after what is passed, he must do it 'suo periculo.'"
