Summary
Thanking him for the "friendship and attention" he had shown him in the past year; sending Eden the current political news in Holland; saying that there appears to be no end to the negotiations he has been engaged in: "one would think that the Town of Amsterdam was on a sudden become enamour'd of the Scotch Brigade;" discussing the war in America; saying that he is unwilling to believe the news from Canada (referring to the Invasion of Quebec) and hopes it is "one of these Lies invented to impede the Deliberations of Parliament;" discussing the conduct of British general Guy Carleton and the loss of Fort St. Johns near Montreal; describing the visit of a large and wealthy man ("the great [Orlov?] & his Diamonds") who danced so vigorously at a ball "as to overset some of our Ladies, & one of them, a pretty Girl, whom he admired, fell in the Combat & hurt her arm."
