Notes
Conrad gives the date of writing at the top of the letter as "1923. 1st May." However, based on the postmark, it appears the letter was actually written on June 1st. See the published edition of Conrad's correspondence, cited below, for additional information. He also notes that it was written at 10pm.
Written on stationery with green embossed letterhead: "Effendi Hill / Oyster Bay, Long Island / New York." In the lefthand corner: "Telephone / Oyster Bay, 357." Effendi Hill was the home of the Doubledays; "Effendi" was Frank's nickname, based on his initials and given him by Rudyard Kipling.
Envelope with stamp and postmarks addressed to: "Mrs James Porter / c/o William H. Porter Esqre / Glen Cove / Long Island. / N. Y." Margaret Hughes's first husband was Lieutenant James Jackson Porter, who was killed in World War I. She married John Chambers Hughes in 1923.

Gift of Margaret Kelly Hughes, 1957.
Summary
Saying that, as she might be able to tell by the hour in which this letter was written, it is the last one he will be writing from "this hospitable house, whence I am carrying away so many pleasant and touching memories;" thanking her for inviting himself and the Doubledays to a dinner at her apartment: "I can't tell you how much I appreciated the sympathetic insight which prompted you to offer that refuge to my troubled spirit. I can only thank you with all my heart..."; sending his love in a postscript to "your enchanting little girl to whom I have lost my heart [Margaret's daughter Jamie]."
