Summary
Concerning the possible innocence of some convicts in Bury; saying that "...almost all of the principal Inhabitants of Bury....were very anxious to save the Lives of the poor Convicts, & many very Zealous on the Idea that they were innocent. I went with some Gentlemen to the Jail & saw & conversed with them & was much surprised to find one of the accused Gipsies, who was stated to have come to the assistance of his Comrade whom the Person attacked was getting the better of, an old man tottering with age & apparently between seventy & eighty as he said he was, & whom you might have pushed down with a Finger;" expressing his hope that the application on their behalf will succeed.
