Summary
Saying that he has read Granger's letter to Thomas Cadell and that they are both very pleased with the progress Granger has made on the supplement to his Biographical History of England and look forward to publishing it as soon as possible; praising his "great care & assiduity, diligence & labour;" offering Granger 50 guineas for the supplement and saying that they would be willing to pay him an additional sum in the future based on the success of the volume: "I hope you are sensible that you have not Mercenaries to deal with, & from that perswasion you may rely upon us;" saying that he thinks very few copies of the Biographical History of England have reached the Continent and "I am glad you deal but little with ye Foreigners;" mentioning a "Reverend Mr Duncombe of Canterbury" (possibly John Duncombe) who made contributions to the project; enclosing "an account of Dr Highmore's head" (no longer with the letter) and saying he hopes it escapes the notice of the clerks at the post office, as he does not have time to transcribe it; sending new year's wishes from himself, his wife Susanna, and her niece to the Grangers, as well as Cadell's compliments; concluding "The Harleian Miscellany is out of print & not in Mr Cadell's [shop] or mine."
