The recipient is unidentified in this letter, however, it is most likely Frederick Keppel. Bolton refers to his photograph of a Lion and a companion to it, of a Tigress, which is coming shortly. Keppel's Illustrated Catalog No. 10, item no. 65, published in 1893, describes the photograph. The companion piece is described in a note "A companion piece of a tigress about to spring has just been published."
Advising him of his instructions to the Autotype Company with regard to his photograph of the Lion and alerting him to "Look out for the companion to it very shortly a Tigress springing - I like it far better than the Lion, as it is so full of life! If people will damp the front of carbon prints when mounting them, they must expect not only the spotting but parts of the print itself to come off. All my copies are now marked 'Keep the front perfectly dry'. In this country people are just beginning to realize that you cannot wet a carbon print like a silver one, but it has taken years to teach them this."
