Notes
The letter is dated according to the French Revolutionary Calendar: "ce le Fructidor an 11." Earlier catalog records list the date as "1803 July 25," but "25" does not appear on the letter. The month of Fructidor corresponds in the Gregorian calendar to a span of dates in August and September (from August 18 or 19th to September 16th or 17th), not to July. 1803 would have been the eleventh year in the calendar.
Removed from Thiers. French Revolution, volume 23.
Summary
Addressing Dejean in his capacity as Minister of War and requesting permission to go to Paris for a few days for an operation; explaining that he has four children who are entirely dependent on him and that he does not trust the local surgeons.
