Summary
Acknowledging receipt of her "affecting letter" and informing her "...that your two missing papers have been just now found! They were found at the office; but how they got there, I cannot imagine. The paper I return; having done my best with it. Let me beg you to believe that I have no 'law for myself' in that matter, but the law of kindness and sympathy. But I have an instinctive conviction that you are not strong enough for the more direct personal influence;" asking to be remembered to her daughters and her husband.
