Offering to present him with a recently published revised edition of his poems; saying "...about one third of it is not included in my preceding vols; & I should like you to have the book chiefly for the sake of its chief poem, which is now much enlarged & re-arranged, so as to make plainer what I conceive to be (though seldom understood) the true, & only possible 'Philosophy' of our Irish History - a History which has a meaning, & will have a work, little suspected by the 'witty' & not always even glimpsed at by the 'wise."
