Summary
Informing him that he will "place the Corps under my command on the east side of Miller's Bridge, keeping a redoubt on the west side to secure a communication. I must therefore commit the care of the country between the Cooper & Wando to your charge with the Cavalry & Infantry of the Legion;" trusting his vigilance and asking for the earliest intelligence he can gather and leaving it to his discretion to "take such positions as you shall find most convenient" and report on his troop movements "that I may know where to find you;" asking him to destroy any stores that he may capture if there is danger that they might fall back into enemy hands; recommending "in the strongest manner to use your utmost endeavours to prevent the Troops under your command from committing irregularitys..."
