Summary
Responding to an invitation to give a lecture at the Lyceum in Salem; explaining that he can only do justice to the subject on which he lectures ("Phrenology & its applications to health, morals, & education") in 12 to 16 lectures of two hours each; describing his schedule for the year; saying that he believes he will spend the fall and winter of 1839-1840 in New England and would be happy to hear from his correspondent in the spring of 1839, should the inhabitants of Salem decide that they would like to hear a full course of lectures; adding that he prefers courses that are open to the public, rather than only for the members of an institution, as "it is my object to make the philosophy which I teach as extensively known as possible...".
