Notes
Burnand addresses his correspondent only as "Leigh." The satirist Percival Leigh was a contributor to Punch for many years, and it is likely, but not certain, that he is Burnand's correspondent.
On stationery with blue embossed letterhead: "102, Belgrave Road / Eccleston Square, S.W."
Signed "Burnandicus Belgravius (Mushroom)." Burnand has drawn a smiling, dancing mushroom next to his signature.
From the Ford collection.
The letter has been mounted and two photographs are glued to the recto, portraits of the singer F. H. Celli and the actress Rose Coghlan.
