The first leaf of the item contains a letter, possibly addressed to William Heinemann, written from "75 Eaton Rise / Ealing, W" and dated "16, i. '01." In it, Dobson says that he wrote the enclosed poem for his correspondent the previous night: "If it suits your purpose, you must let me see proof, for final touches."
Removed in 1922 from a volume lettered "MSS Poems etc.," which was purchased from Hellman in 1907.
