Discussing his efforts to "settl[e his] perplexed affairs," and noting that he is settling his "whole Fortune on the City, in trust for building and maintaining an Hospital for Ideots and Lunaticks"; reporting that he has not been doing much "writing in Verse or Prose"; complaining, "If there be any merry company in this Town, I am an utter stranger to the Persons and Places; except when half a score come to spunge on me every Sunday evenings"; critiquing some "reeking" poems by John Hughes and expressing his rage that he was listed as a subscriber to the volumes; giving news of shared acquaintances.
