Written from Saighton Grange on stationery engraved with a small gold crown and "Sibell" engraved beneath it.
The letter is simply dated "Thursday" but the book to which the letter refers was published in 1897.
Henley's book "English Lyrics / Chaucer to Poe / 1340-1809 / selected and arranged by / William Ernest Henley" was published in London by Methuen and Co. in 1897. The dedication reads "To / George Wyndham / in gratitude for / much good talk good counsel / and good feeling."
Saying "How am I to thank you for the book of lovely Lyrics, so perfectly chosen with its dear words of dedication to George & your inscription to me - I am simply DELIGHTED with it, & touched by your kind thought in giving me this, the first copy. I love & appreciate it, for it is a most precious possession, dear Mr. Henley - I have had such very busy days, that I have really not had time to enjoy it until this eve'g or I should have written sooner - it has been a ray of light thro' rather a distracting week."
