Reporting that Colonel [Henry] Lee just told him that St. Clair is "on [his] march to join this Army at the head of the Pennsylvania and Maryland lines"; expressing his fears that "Sir Henry Clinton will reinforce Charles Town so as to enable the enemy to act with vigor & decision in this quarter"; asking him to "march with all possible speed to join [Greene's army]"; instructing him to "leave all the heavy stores & useless baggage to follow [him] under an escort of such of the troops as are not able to perform hasty marches"; giving him a detailed route to follow; congratulating him on "the surrender of Lord Cornwallis and his Army."
