Referring to the "malice" of Steuben's enemies, but stating that he will never "think unfavourably" of him; hoping Steuben will triumph over his "private enemies by sharing the honor and laurels in the success of our arms" in Virginia; noting that he is waiting to hear "the glorious news of the surrender of Cornwallis"; asking him to take care of [Sir Henry] Clinton.
