Summary
Saying that he would have written earlier, but he has been preoccupied with the illness and death of his daughter; writing that she died on October 29th and since then he has done nothing but put the finishing touches on a "moonshiner sketch" titled "At Teague Poteet's: A Sketch of the Hog Mountain Range" for The Century; telling Osgood that he is delaying "the Uncle Remus legends for the purpose of getting some more from the coast"; adding "If my 'find' down there pans out as I think it will, the new book will contain about eighty-five or ninety new fables, and will be the completest collection of folk-lore ever made"; proposing a book project of "negro songs" with illustrations and mentioning that he would like Mary Franklin to be involved.
