Notes
Dating: Keats's fair copy of the poem is dated to 1818. Stillinger (1978, p. 601) dates Keats's composition of the poem to February to April 1818.
Part of a large collection, assembled by Richard Woodhouse, of letters and manuscripts relating to the English poet John Keats. Items in the collection have been described in individual catalog records; see collection-level record for MA 215 for more information.
Woodhouse's system of shorthand is based on William Mavor's Universal Stenography (1779). Stillinger notes that "it records most of the consonants of the text but very little else, and necessarily it produces ambiguous readings."--Cf. Stillinger (1985), xvii.
