Keats's publishers objected to this preface, and it was entirely rewritten for the 1818 publication of Endymion. The dedication was also rewritten for publication (here reading "Inscribed, / with every feeling of pride and regret, / and with "a bowed mind," / To the memory of / The most english of Poets except Shakespeare, / Thomas Chatterton," but published as "Inscribed to the memory of Thomas Chatterton").
