Summary
Thanking him for his letters and apologizing for "any Breach in the Administration, whatever may have been the Cause of it, at a Time when the Circumstances of this Country require the most perfect Harmony and Union, and the Exertion of every Nerve;" referring to the Spanish War; saying that he was "in Hopes that notwithstanding a Diversity of Sentiments, Mutual Candour and Moderation might have prevented an absolute Rupture, and I cannot but look upon the present Situation of our Affairs to be very melancholy and dangerous, notwithstanding all our Glory and Success."
