Summary
Replying to his request for "information respecting the form in which the loan of arms for the students was made in 1786;" saying that he can "find no record or file which enables me fully to answer this inquiry" except for a note from the Committee of the Corporation which reported on the vote "to form regulations respecting the use of Sixty stands of arms lately loaned to the undergraduates by the governor, & for which the Corporation are responsible;" saying that he believes "it would be sufficient for me to acknowledge the receipt of the arms as a loan, the purpose & the conditions viz. that they be safely kept & preserved & returned in good order (or an equivalent for loss or damage) when the Executive shall judge that the public service requires."
