Summary
Issued while Johnson was governor of Tennessee. Concerning "An act to regulate the emancipation of Slaves and to provide for the Transportation of Free persons of Color to the Western Coast of Africa, passed on the 24th day of February 1854." Appointing Robert Johnson of Greene County as an agent "whose duty it shall be to superintend and to take charge of all persons who may be emancipated or who have been emancipated under the provision of the aforesaid recited act, for the purpose of carrying them to the most convenient port or Harbor on the Atlantic Coast, and from thence have them transported to Liberia on the Western Coast of Africa"; adding that he also confers "upon the said Robert Johnson as agent all the power, privileges, immunities and emoluments by law appertaining to said appointment of agent."
