Notes
Year of writing as suggested by the essay noted below by John Butt in "Notes and Queries", January 1955.
This MS., formerly cataloged as in the hand of John Gay, is assigned to Fortescue on the basis of tentative conclusions of Prof. G. Sherburn (see his letters in MA. folder s.v. Gay, John); and on the basis of the article, "A prose fragment wrongly attributed to Gay and Pope," by John Butt, "Notes and Queries", January 1955, p. 23-5. Printed [very inaccurately] by A. L. McLeod, "Pope and Gay. Two overlooked manuscripts," "Notes and Queries," August, 1953, p. 335-7, who mistakenly attributes the MS. to Alexander Pope.
Summary
Relating a dream in which both John Gay and Alexander Pope appear.
