The first draft begins "Of late it has been easy to understand how it came to pass that William Shakespeare was dolefully inspired to wrote of the rain & how it raineth every day. Only to the mind's eye of an English bard could such a vision have presented itself tricked out in the attributes of possibility."

Being two drafts of an essay which Henley has titled, in the first draft, "English Weather" with each draft being two pages in length; there is a fifth page in draft form which appears also to be on english weather but the page does not appear to be a continuation of either of the two previous drafts.
