Summary
Collection consists of seven notebooks or journals kept by Hawthorne while he held the position of United States Consul in Liverpool, England. Entries describe daily activities and travels throughout England and Scotland, and record observations and encounters during frequent walks. A few story or article ideas in earlier entries. Notebooks described in seven individual records (MA 581-587).
