Manuscript inscribed on inner front cover: "on board the Invincible, Spithead, from M.S. Hill to his friend William Barnard July 24, 1794;" also inscribed on the inner front cover is a small chart titled "Dimensions of Le Juste, ship struck to the Invincible, June 1st, 1794."
The HMS Invincible, under the command of Thomas Packenham, was badly damaged in its battle with the French ship, Le Juste.
With stamp of Gherardi Davis and with calling card of "Mr. Paul Lyman Hammond / Christmas 1925 / Knickerbocker Club."

Summary
Being written in two parts; in the front half of the book, a detailed inventory of ships in the British fleet with their dimensions, number of men and guns, date and place of building; at the back half, an autograph description of divisional flags, Night Signals, Fog Signals, Pendants, a chart of Private ships being listed as Private Ships by Day and Private Ships by Night with watercolor illustrations in each section; including, on the final two pages, the "English Line of Battle" and the 'French Line of Battle" which appear to be from the Battle between the English and French Navies known as the Glorious First of June.
