Summary
Concerning the possibility that the current session of Parliament may be continued to the end of his trial; saying "I most humbly thank your Lordship for the notice which you have been pleased to give of your Intention to move an address to his Majesty to continue this Session of Parliament to the Close of my trial. It has been suggested to me that an Objection may be urged to this measure on Account of the Length of time to which my defence may be drawn. It would ill become me to offer any thing like a Compromise with the Judges of the Court before which I am tried; nor is it for that purpose, but to let your Lordship know the clear grounds on which you may maintain the proposition which you have announced against any such objection, if it is made, that I have now the Honor to assure your Lordship that if the Lords do resolve to sit to the close of the trial, and to give judgment as from it in the present Session, I shall limit the time of my defence to Fourteen days. If that term shall be deemed too long, I will shorten it to seven days; and I humble leave it to your Lordship to make any use of this declaration that you may think proper."
