Summary
Discussing his work on the production of metalliferous veins; saying "I avail myself of an opportunity which offers to send thee two small pamphlets one relating to the 'Dipping Needle Deflection' by Thomas Jordan; & the other is intended to promote some plan for facilitating the ascent & descent of our miners: asking if he would share them with several professors; adding "I am pressed for time to day, or I would add a few remarks on mineral veins. By means of voltaic action I have obtained different metalliferous veins formed in the middle of layers of clay, & Mr. Jordan has obtained others of carbonate of copper & carbonate of lime in the same joint or fissure, & covering a surface of at least 12 square inches. We have also had the clay distinctly laminated. We have found it best to use a constant battery of 4 or 5 pair of cylinders. I believe I have mention'd the subject to thee before but the recent experiments are still more unequivocal than the former ones & I am more & more confirmed in my views relating to the origin of mineral veins.
