Five pages written on the letterhead of the "Headquarters Army of the United States, / Washington, D.C., 186-."
Written on envelope in ink by Grant "Original draft of Genl Grants letter of acceptance of [illegible]"; written on envelope in pencil by Badeau "Original autograph draft of Gel. Grants first (crossed out) inaugural with my corrections on afterword accepted by him. A Badeau."
