Notes
One stanza from Faust's speech has been completely canceled and has a rewritten stanza penned in the margin above. The revised stanza is as published (beginning "So war Apoll den Hirten zugestaltet," i.e., "Among the shepherds here, and in their guise"). With additional minor revisions throughout.

Summary
Nearly 100 lines from Faust, part 2, act 3, beginning in the inner courtyard of a castle with Faust's instructions to the Princes: "Faust. Die Gaben, diesen hier verliehen" (i.e. "Now they have all been splendidly rewarded") and concluding in the middle of Phorkyas' first lines in the shaded grove: "Hervor! Hervor!" (i.e., "Up from your beds! Just hurry, give your curls a toss!").
