Summary
Concerning a proposed memoir of Principal Shairp; saying he does not remember any correspondence from Mrs. Shairp or her son on the proposed memoir "...but that may well be, as I have a large correspondence, and my memory has become very treacherous in old age. Anything that I could write about Mr. Shairp must be very brief; for I know next to no incidents of his life; and all I could say would be rather an expression of my esteem and affection for his character than a record of what befell him. But if Mrs. Shairp wishes me to try, that would be with me a reason for trying; and in that case I must do my best."
