Summary
Wishing her great success at the Duke of York theatre; saying "I am startled to be told by my wife that you have started a campaign at the Duke of York! It comes of my not reading the papers. I am so sorry I let the occasion pass without wishing you the very greatest success; and putting into inadequate words what you must know I feel - every sympathy with your effort. I don't know when I shall be in Town, but I hope I may soon have a chance of seeing the Company, & better still yourself. All this year I have stuck faithfully to a novel that nears completion & seem to have lost all touch with theatre doings. The war too mightily swallows up one's mind & alas one's heart."
